Blue Vanda
I made this Phalaenopsis orchid in silver in the early 1990's for RGB Kew Gardens for their shop to celebrate the Orchid Festival, held every February
And what a fitting drop in vibrant blue Lapis Lazuli to show the rarest of coloured Orchid!
Vanda coerulea, commonly known as blue lady orchid, blue Vanda, queen orchid, lily orchid or autumn lady's tresses, is a species of orchid found in Northeast India with its range extending to China. It is known as kwaklei in Manipuri and vandaar in Sanskrit. The blooms, which are very long lasting compared to other orchids, is the only true natural blue orchid
Lapis Drop - 22 x 7mm
Lapis lazuli, or lapis for short, is a deep-blue metamorphic rock used as a semi-precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense color
Lapis Lazuli boosts the immune system, purifies blood, lowers blood pressure, cooling and soothing areas of inflammation
Mines in northeast Afghanistan continue to be a major source of lapis lazuli. Important amounts are also produced from mines west of Lake Baikal in Russia, and in the Andes mountains in Chile which is the source that the Inca used to carve artifacts and jewelry. Smaller quantities are mined in Pakistan, Italy, Mongolia, the United States, and Canada
