Hula + Chalcedony
In the late 1980's I was commissioned into making a suite of Jewellery for an advert - Tahula the Hula for Hula Hoops- this entailed casting a real Hula Hoop and making earrings, a bracelet, ring and necklace, which was worn in the tropical inspired advert
(I have tried finding traces if this advert but with no success so if anyone can help I would be very grateful!!)
Cast in sterling silver from a snack made at the time, shows the wonderful texture of the snack which has since changed and is much smoother today
For a more tropical feel - this Hula has an added lush green Chalcedony encased in silver
Chrysoprase, a gemstone variety of chalcedony that contains small quantities of nickel. Its colour is normally apple-green, but varies to deep green
The meaning of chrysoprase comes from two words – chrys being the Greek for ‘gold or yellow’ and prase from the Greek for ‘leek’.
Sometimes called the “stone of Venus”, this gemstone has a reputation for bringing happiness, joy, and optimism wherever it goes.
Chrysoprase stones are found worldwide, with deposits in Australia, Brazil, Central Europe, North America, and South Africa
Chrysoprase is one of the birthstones for May
